Do you know what you can do?

You may have internalized some limiting beliefs about your abilities. If this is the case, you need more information about the skills, knowledge and qualifications that are required for the role you want.

Poll experts who would be in a position to evaluate whether you have a skillset, knowledge or qualifications gap. Keep in mind that experts are not limited to people who have the position you want. They can be hiring managers, experienced recruiters, investors or people in similar decision positions who regularly evaluate people in the position you want to have.

Ask these experts a series of questions:

  1. What is the most efficient way to bridge these skill gaps?
  2. What unique, up and coming or creative ways exist to bridge those gaps?
  3. If you were in my shoes, what would you do to get to where you are now?

You need to make a decision about whether you can – or want to -invest the necessary resources to close this gap. If not, move on to something else that fires you up.
