Pipe Dreams & Crazy Schemes
Do you think more about the groupies and the fancy car you get that you would have as a rock star or do you just think about playing music every day?
Think about this question in the context of pursuing your own passion. Be honest with yourself If you answered yes, you are extrinsically motivated about what the dream brings you, rather than being intrinsically motivated to pursue it every day, as you would a job. If this is the case, then it may take a lot more internal motivation and hard work to succeed in this dream.
Can you achieve those extrinsic goals in a way that might be easier, faster, or more enjoyable?
It’s ok to want groupies and a fancy house instead of just playing the music you always have played. Let’s be clear here, you have every right to want what you want and we are not judging you for that. What is important is to recognize what it is that you really want and go directly for it. There might be more ways to get there than being a rock star.
Example Time:
You can figure out how to make a good passive income and get your big house. Then, learn about how to attract the attention of people and develop a following. You can go a step further and ask yourself what the groupies and the fancy house gives you. And so on and so forth. Oftentimes, at the very core, we just want to be loved and accepted for who we are. The sooner you get there, the sooner you can turn to pay attention to yourself and focus on doing things that are fulfilling and fun for you.
Generally speaking, the more extrinsic the goal is, the more willpower and discipline it takes to succeed. This is because the process itself may not provide you with enough intrinsic motivation. Be warned that the road ahead might be tougher. Good luck
